removing lacquer from chrome

What's the best way?

I've an alu frame in chrome which is lacquered over the decals. I want to remove the decals and chrome and polish it up.

Will Nitromors do it or will is attack the chrome as well? And if it's OK how hard can I go on it in terms of abrasive?

is it definately chromed and not polished aluminium?

nitromors should remove the laquer but will probably tarnish the polished finish - not a problem if you are repolishing though

As Lewis suspected it's polished alluminium, not chrome.

It will either be laquered or clear anodized, try the Nitromorse, if that does'nt work then it's anodized (Nitromorse only works on paint or laquer), if you want to get the clear anodizing off buy some Drain unblocker from B&Q, use that to strip the anodizing then get into it with Brillo soap pads.

Lot of work doing this to a frame but will look ace once it's done, downside is it will need to be re-done to keep it looking good, either with Autosol metal polish or the Brillo pad but i've never found that much of a hassle.

Got some Nitromors on at the moment, so will see how it goes. I'm sure it's a lacquer over it as the decals are under a coating and there's some chips to it. If I can get it and the decals off and polished up I'll be happy.

Looked for Autosol in the shop earlier but they didn't have it. I'll wait until I've got the coating off first.

Always loved the chrome finish on BMXs bitd, so want something equally shiny :)
