OK, so this is perhaps a stupid question I'm going to ask. I'm looking for a decent fork with a 1 inch steerer tube, but 1 inch steerers appear to have gone extinct around the time of the Marzocchi Bomber's arrival on the scene.

Is there any way to fit a 1 inch to fork crown that currently has a 1 1/8 steerer?

I've heard of people pressing out the current Inch 1/8 steerer and fitting an Inch steerer kit, with an Inch threadless headset. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to say for sure on the best action.

What frame is it? As the frame may not have the right dimensions, sizes for sus forks.

Re:

It depends on the fork you want to run. My pace RC36 have 1 1/8" and 1" steerers available from pace. If like me you want to mount a modern fork to an older 1" head tube frame you'll most likely be limited on the forks available. Once you find the fork steerer you need you may well have problems finding a solution to my problem which is non of my local bike shops seem able to thread my 1" A-Head steerer and finding an 1" A-Head head set and stem is proving a challenge too.

Re:

Marzocchi offered the MX Comp and MX pro with 1" steerers, in 80mm & 100mm variants right up until 2007/2008 IIRC, I had a set of 1" '04 80mm MX pro's on an old Explosif and they were really good forks, plush, reliable & just worked flawlessly.... typical old school Marzocchi

1" aheadsets aren't too hard to find, There's quite a few Tange units kicking about still if you look around, I bulk purchased a load from CRC a couple of years ago, they may still do them otherwise SJS or ebay may be of help.....

1" stems can be a bit limiting, but there is always the option of using a 1" to 1-1/8" shim. They work just fine, In fact every ITM road ahead stem I've ever bought has always come with one in the box.

it's good to hear that those shims they offer work ok just need to find a delicate looking stem to suit the frame what you putting together ultra zenith ?

CK have a reducer. 1 1/8" to 1" ive had a couple in my time and theyre fine and do what theyre supposed to withpout issue
Other route would be a reducer that presses in to the headtube first then a 1" headset would be pressed as normal into that. Not used one of those but sounds a good idea. Certainly no obvious design issues.
