Referendum

So it's not up to the people who will be implementing the system to tell anyone how much it'll cost??

edit: I am a c**t

Well yes, if we (the electorate) feel it is important then we need to get them to tell us.

and lol, was worried I was gonna get in to trouble for that one!

The Royal Wedding is expected to cost the tax-payer anywhere between £50m and £100m.

£80m for this referendum seems fair to me. The rest of the cost mooted by the No campaign is for electronic vote counting machines. Something which the electoral commission aren't even sure they'll bother with. They may, like the Irish, stick to manual counting.

I'm not even getting started on that one
But apparently it will generate gazillions in tourism cash etc.....

Not disputing the fairness of the cost, just that NO got that right so how much of their other figures are correct?

It goes to vote in less than a month.. imo they should have every detail nailed down now so that the public can make an informed decision.

I'll just do whatever's in place anyway.. just feel that the timing is piss poor given the current financial state

The idea that choosing your candidates in order of preference could be "too complicated" is shocking to me. How many opinion polls on websites, TV shows or shoved through the door ask exactly the same thing and no one has a problem with them? Saying it is too complicated and will reduce turnout further is just the "no campaign" trying to get people on side.

Imagine this scenario:

Interviewer - "Rank these ice creams in order of preference:
Chocolate
Strawberry
Vanilla
Rum and Rasin?"

Interviewee - "Erm I'm sorry that is too complicated, I am not going to vote"

It just wouldn't happen.

It would if the interviewee had never eaten ice cream.

Then it is up to the interviewee to educate themselves. Why should they be spoon fed the ice cream. If you have never tried one of the favours then either don't vote for it or go and try it. Similarly if you don't know what a politician stands for, read their literature. God knows they will be stuffing enough of it through the door come election time! If you can't be bothered then don't complain if your views are not considered later.

Wouldn't it be good if there was an election for ice cream and instead of leaflets they delivered wee tubs to try. Better still beer! :)

Because the politicians want something from the voter, presumably..

I suspect that, for someone who has little to no interest in politics, reading loads of boring spiel from a number of people who probably can't be trusted to tell the truth is unlikely to happen..

Politics is great if you're into it (well, some folk seem to be well into it so must derive pleasure from it) but if not ..... it's like having teeth pulled.
