recumbants

I built a long wheelbase recumbent back in the 70's, and it didn't climb very well, but it descended like crazy! If I was to have a modern one, it would look like this-

Just for you, tintin, another one in Red. They are carbon fiber frames, and the frameset with fork, and drivetrain is in the $4-5K U.S. dollars range.

This one looks pretty cool. Just pop in an electric motor and the up hills are sorted.. :P

i've ridden one of those at bikexpo at alexandra palace back in early '90s
thay are an amazing machine (polished indoor floors = 3 wheel drift on corners when done properly)
the guy on it before me was iirc the editor of cycling plus (or something like that) at the time
he flipped it!, hit went up on 2 wheels and needed to turn one way to get it back down, or the other way to avoid the barriers :D

i'd have one tomorrow! :D

I'd like a shot of one for a laugh but preferably on a large area of open flat ground for when I crash/fall over (whichever happens first).

I do tend to look at them as if the riders are loonies though when I see them in town, which I seem to do quite often in Edinburgh. I like their big red flags though.

it was in a big arena at ali pali when i went on them
i went on the 3 wheel wincheetah, a kingcycle and a couple of others, it was great fun :)

(i agree with the loonie vote though, when i have ended up talking to a recumbent-ist they tend to be ... eccentric?)

You do realise that Velo admitted to having one a few posts back? Then again he has also worked out how to carry a bike on a scooter so you may be right :D
