Orange 🍊 Fan
Looking to have an Orange Aluminium O frame repaired, its a prototype, so deserves the restoration to be done well. Not bothered to much if it’s expensive, just want a nice clean repair, as I intend for it to be resprayed at Argos cycles Bristol.
It has a small hairline crack at the top of the seatpost junction

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. 8)

Would be worth speaking to Orange? Might be a project they are interested in.

Not sure, yes maybe worth a try..
Have they done many previous projects, I don’t recall them doing any. But messaging them wont do any harm.

I don't know but with them making their alloy frames in UK thought it may be something they'd take on if it piques their interest.

Fair point 8)
You never know.

Thanks for the mention..

I have welded plenty of aluminium frame repairs, but unfortunately an Orange will be 6061-T6 alloy, so would require a difficult 2-stage post-weld heat treatment.
Thankfully, the Manitous and Paces that I mostly see are 7005 alloy, so require a far easier process.

I'd try Orange first, as they should have the facilities or sub-contractors, to do both do the repair (which is the easy bit) and get it solution heat treated, quenched, aligned and artificially aged.

All the best,

Great info - does that apply to all the aluminium ones? If it does & my Elite & EVO2 crack they will be write-offs as not in the same league as Cheshire1980's frame.

As far as I know, all the Halifax built ones are 6061, so need the 2-cycle post-weld treatment.

I presume that URT suspension one was actually made by Ballistic in Taiwan, and so is likely 7005.
Or was it just a copy of the Ballistic?

I'm sure there are plenty more knowledgeable about Orange frames here who could confirm.

All the best,
