went round rivington today, had a great time.
but my bike has suffered, the tioga psycho's i have now, both have split sidewalls.
so i thought i may try a modern tyre.
because amberwalls get dirty very quickly and are a nightmare to clean.
so what are the views on tyre choice ?
someone recommended maxxis high rollers.
seeing as this bike is a rider, i want the best tyre for riding off road.
the bike is a raleigh dynatech.
thanks, jeff.

High rollers or kenda nevegals are good "all round" tyres. there are far more condition-specific tyres in the modern arena tho

depends on the terrain

up here cant see past wtb raptors ,great in loamy soil , but getting hard to find nowadays
conti barons are goot too but heavy , tho my local halfords was selling them cheap

kenda karmas for dry dusty stuff ,light too

my 10p's worth

Panaracer XC fire Pro, in their various types and sizes are a good all rounder, and can be found on offer from time to time.

For mainly offroad I also like Panaracer TrailRaker's, which seem to cope well with everything except wet roots / rocks, on which they are utter...erm, not good.

Finally, Schwalbe Smart Sam's, although I'm not sure if they are still made. They are a good on / off road tyre, although I don't think they would cope too well with too much mud.

Geax brand from Wiggle. Conti Brand and Panaracer XC Pro get my recommendation

Not that I know bugger all about these things, as I only have limited experience, but I bought Schwalbe Black Jacks for mine based on reviews online. When I went out the other day they coped with dry tracks, hard pack, wet mud, rocks and dry tree roots fine. They didn't grip as well as some I'm sure but they did ok for me.

They have a kevlar layer too for puncture protection, and they only cost £13 each so bit of a bargain tbh...

Worth a look anyway ;-)

Trailrakers would be a bit of a nightmare around Rivington. They are great in mud but a bit scary on the rocky stuff which makes up most of the trails around Rivington.

Panaracer Fire XC Pros are a good all round tyre which also has a good retro pedigree in that they've been around since the late 90's. I even have a pair with amber walls and the tread pattern has remained virtually unchanged since then.

The 2.1 size measures up a little narrower than stated which is actually perfect for the narrow chainstay clearances on Dyna Techs.
The 1.8s are great when it gets really muddy too and the rubber compound gives great traction on the sandstone and gritstone you get in the Peak District and t'hills a bit further north.
