Recommend me a tyre....

Hi All,

I have been running some Continental Double Fighter II tyres on two bikes for over a year now and apart from being a complete pig to remove they have been a good summer/road tyre.

The problem is their weight, at nearly 800g they are very heavy. Combine that with slime tubes and my nice light set of wheels is now pretty heavy :!:

What i'm after is a tyre that rolls fast on road and hard pack, not too wide (1.9 is my ideal width) and light, ideally foldable kevlar. Cost not much of an issue!

What are you guys running...... :?:

Gatorskins are good, but an absolute pig to get on and off. Spesh nimbus I've liked, no idea if they still do them. Steer clear of conti sport contact, hard to get on, see, to be puncture magnets and I've had sidewalls fail after a couple of hundred road miles.

I have been very happy with Panaracer Fire XC Pro 1.8. They are light, grippy in everything apart from loose chunky tracks (even mud) and not very buzzy on the road.

continental race kings in 2.0 guise might be a good choice.

ribble sell them quite cheap.

normal folding is £16 ish (out of stock at moment)
supersonic is £33 ish (in stock)

normal folding weighs in at 520g
supersonic at 430g

i have the 2.2 wire, which weighs 625g ish and its great.
allegedly the 2.2 is more like a 2.0 (so people say).

either way ive had them up to 40mph.

don't forget on one and planet x are doing half price tyres sales at the momment

Conti X king Supersonic 2.0 they are about £36-£40 quid though.

If you are road riding then try Conti Travel contact - they are useful off road on country paths, fire roads (not in gloupy mud) and are fine on road and have good puncture protection. They also come with a free tube. Due to price rise that came into effect this month expect to pay £25.

Charge Splashbacks

I've just fitted 2 pairs of these Charge Splashbacks and they are dogs to fit!! First time I have ever had to use tyre levers to put a tyre on.....well tight. Look great when on though with the tan wall 8)
