Hello chaps,

I need a new monitor, what do I go for?

I'm after something 22-23" ish, integrated speakers would be a bonus. I don't have a TV and could do with something to watch DVDs on, anyone got any views?

Cheerio!

Cannot go wrong with Samsung for monitors normally.
Pick up there FreeView TV/Monitor one's and they have speakers in as well.
22" will usually be 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) in resolution, so a 16:10 computer aspect and slightly nicer to work on than the 16:9 1920x1080 (HD1080) resolution and seem to be around 23"

Though HD 1080 works better for TV/DVD as you either don't have borders at top and bottom or you don't have a vertical stretch on the picture.

Don't you have to have a license even if you only have a laptop ? something about the iplayer being available .

No. You only need a lcense if you're watching programmes as tey're being broadcast.

It might change in the future though.

that's with respect to the iPlayer.
You need a licence even if you're not watching it and have anything capable of receiving it 'over the air', or err cable (TV, Satellite, Video/DVD/PV Recorder, Sat/DVB/Analogue card for the computer, etc....) even though broadband is cable (normally) which use much the same setup as er Cable or even DSL broadband... bugger bet they can make you pay for it now
