Recommend an Alfine hubbed bike pls!

Until a month ago I had two Alfine 8 speed hub bikes, a Temple lightweight city bike and a Cannondale BadBoy leftie. They both rode really nicely around town and I probably would have kept the Temple if it wasn't too small. I had an idea of using the Badboy as a gravel bike and put some 35mm gravel tyres on it but they were a very tight fit and the ride off road was not great. Also the process of changing the tyres on the Badboy, although great on the front wheel, not even requiring wheel removal, was a real faff on the rear and the thought of having to change a puncture off road in muddy and wet conditions made me reappraise my idea. I have since sold them both.

I gave up in derailleurs off road years ago.

No, you're right. SS is in my blood. 15+ years of it.
Wouldn't say no to an Olsen woth a pinion in it though.

I rode fixed gear on my 1967 Carlton Cobra between the ages of 14 to 18 because I couldn't afford to fix the derailleur. It was in fen country though so the simplicity was great. At nearly 70 now, my legs couldn't take it here in hilly Hampshire.

But I think after owning a year or two, you'd sell it on and go back to "direct drive".

In an attempt to get this thread back on track; Intec make a 29er frame for hub gears, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg and it fits the bill.
