Rear mechs-mixed shifters

Modern stuff, Sram SX & X series shifters only works with Sram rear mech's (SX4..., X7, X9, X0)

Named Sram shifters work with Shimano rear mechs (Attack & Rocket)

Any shifter works with any front mech

Shimano shifters only work with Shimano mech's

Retro, not 100% sure on which works with which

So I just stick to Sram X9 ;)

Retro.
SRTxxx = Shimano (and others)
Which is where SRAM/GripShift started, then they wanted even spaced twisting on the GripShift which is easier and more intuative for numskulls than the Shimano spacing on a GripShifter.
So
ESPxxx = SRAM 1:1 came out and you suddenly had 1:1 ratio.
All the numbers are now the same space on the shifter. Good for mum and dad, everyone happy :)

Course they needed to sell this while realising people wanted trigger shifter, so now add more marking gumpf to sell this 1:1 to trigger people, even though it's all really based around having nice number spacing on a GripShift.

The other thing that makes a difference on leverage at the rear mech is which side of the pinch bolt the cable is attached.

At one time Campag road mechs were 8/9 speed compatible purely by moving the cable to the other side of the pinch bolt.
