Re:

Why do you ask ?
Is a road bike not retro enough otherwise ?
No offence meant , just curious as to your reasoning .
Just how many 50s bikes do you think are out there . Working . Owned by people on this forum . Period correct too I presume ?
And what of the members who have built lovely bikes , not 50s , and not British ?
Do they have to wait for a 70s Italian rBotM , or whatever period or country of origin their bike falls into before they proudly exhibit the result of their work ?
Food for thought .

You would have to go back to the March rBotM, there was a long discussion/complaint that old British bikes never win. So myself and others said, "Enter them and lets see, but they can't win if not entered."

So that is the background...

I think the lack of response says something about the way this 'competition' is going. I entered my 1958 Constellation some time ago so it can't be entered again, else I would. Most owners with period correct English machines and the odd spec of oil, rust or love simply won't bother now, or so it seems. It has become a competition for wall hangings and forensically clean, soulless foreign machines.

There you go that should get the pot boiling.

Re:

OK then, here's a 1950s British bike. Not pristine I'm afraid but then it, or most of it is older than I am. I think that with anything like this it will never be possible to get it 'correct' as unless they were mass produced there was never a standard specification so all one can do is use components from around that time as far as possible. My ROH is complete inasmuch as I can use it on the road and has been ridden for a couple of 35 milers in the few weeks that it has been useable and I intend to get a good deal more use out of it through the summer. Is it finished? Probably not, there will always be better or more appropriate parts to use and that's part of the interest in it for me; I don't really want to finish it as such! I'll continue to update the build thread as I go along. (If I get time with my other projects) With apologies for the rubbish snaps; I'm no photographer!
