Rare Prototype Zaskar .. yawn.. yer mate.

I have asked him a question and now used the word ZaskErr at the end! Lets see if he puts it on the listing........

Response to my question as to why the frame doesn't have the traditional Zaskar characteristics:

"Hi,
no worries..The only factor that differs from a 'commercially' marketed frame is the rear tube beneath the seatpost..It's curved instead of being flat..Now i've owned a couple of Zaskars which all sported the 'flat' end tube with GT motif...It can't be truely compared with ordinary shop bought bikes...
That aside,it's agenuine frame with identifiable markings which declare the unit being of 'test' origins..That's all i can say....I've been into cycling for over 25 years & have owned a great deal of equipment from vintage through to modern day competition stuff..I'm confident this is a rare item as i've never come across
anything like it before..Granted not that unusual,or valuable but definately collectable wouldn't you agree ?
I'll post further pics tomorrow..
All the best

I have to put my ore in here and say what if mr gary turner decided to use a different grade of alloy due to competition and if i remember rightly the 6061 and 7005 grades are what they say they are just grades of alloy, if mr turner thought well i will put more alloy of a different grade in would this not change the content of the alloy and so 6041 would be created but then he found that it was not strong enough to manipulate into a frame and never sent it to market.

The stamping of zasker or however spelt might be just some worker spelling it incorrectly just to make sure it dont leave the factory.

this all sounds very far fetched but in the cycle world we will never know what goes on in a factory behind the scenes and what they do in the R@D room.

my question is simple can anyone prove what this bike is or what it ain't. I have mailed the seller to go look at this frame

I can hear the ranting already. thanks andy

I'm entirely unsure about the legitimacy of these claims - and in truth, I struggle to care - but in my experience Occam's razor tends to be the correct answer.

It does have to be said, if somebody was trying to convince about something be some kind of uber-rare prototype wouldn't they normally go to lengths to actually show some evidence of such?

Other than that isn't the more likely, Occam's suggestion entirely more likely? Some lesser GT frame and either some accidental or perhaps more deliberate misdirection, dressed up as something better?

Or am I being harsh?

Again...

Its probably a one of these like what i had Backwoods still nice bike and sad to see it go. But yeah it does make me mad when blatant lies are told on ebay, as like my feedback on there i sold a t-shirt and the guy said t-shirt ok smelled bad grey not blue . Which after he left me neg feedback he said, it was fine the t-shirt he says it is blue not grey and he didnt like the soap powder i washed it in.I am going to asak for a pic of the lettering

My 1996 Backwoods frame.
Same gusset, it's not in pic but it has the same mech hanger as frame in the ad. This is a 20" so gusset slightly different (but under top tube). Also curved end cap.

You know, before your forefathers discovered America,we Europeans believed the world to be flat..Columbus took off his blinkers & followed his instinct
later to find a new world..Thank God for Columbus because without him we wouldn't have GT !"

Wow.

93-95 Avalanche at very best.

However, what confuse me is later post 95 mech hanger and top tube gusset which apply to 94-95 models. Unusual. Maybe late 95 or 96 with old stock gusset?

I think I've found answer on my own question. That top tube gusset along with one bolt hanger were low end GTs like Arrowhead or Tempest from 1996 onward.
What a tosser.

Although this http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0
97 Zaskar had the same one bolt hanger and top tube gusset. just different downtube gusset.
