has anyone used a rapid rise mech with thumbies? does it work?
have a m951 mech which is destined for rc300 & plan to run xt thumbshifters.

I've done it with a m951 - makes cockpit more 'logical' -but very confusing if switching bikes - more so than sti.

I'd be concerned doing it with a worn thumbie - rr mech springs are quite fierce - so make sure end stops are well set.

It works fine. The cable pull is the same, it just goes the opposite way. I ran one with 20 year old thumbies no trouble.

wow isn't it strange how sometimes to try and do something simple you look for the most complicated solution!!!! I wanted to winter proof one of my bikes so needed to go from 9spd to 7spd, the 9spd had rapid rise with modern shifters. I then changed to thumb shifters (for the 7spd) but changed my rear mech without even thinking it could work..D'oH Might have to have a re-think!
