Rant, rant, rant, rant, bleedin' foreigners, rant, rant, rant, dole scum, rant, rant, rant, rant, fir trees, rant, rant, rant, hairy doughnuts, rant rant, rant, rant, Bob Crowe core blimey, rant, rant, rant, rant.

And cheese!

A summary of an average week on RB general chat?

Containment is the key! Post yer random rants here

I've ignored it all as best as I can but it's noticable there has been a lot more cr*p and nonsense on the forum in the last few months. It's spoiling it for those of us interested in old bikes.

How's the green mystery bike getting on LGF?

'serviced' the front brake by retentioning the spring, just got to do the back now.

May be thinking on a respray.

Rant, rant, rant, novelty trumpets, rant rant rant.

I sort of agree with the consensus in this thread so far that there is way too much ranting in this forum at the moment.

On the other hand it is unreasonable if people making controversial postings expect that those with opposing opinions will just let a controversial statement stand as gospel truth, without making their own opinion known. And that goes both ways.

What is a problem is when people start rubbishing others and then get in a flap because they get rubbished back.

Beyond having a guideline "no postings about politics", I don't see how it can be any different.

Rant "bloody students" rant "should never have joined the EU" rant.

Rant!

Oh king, eh, very nice. An' how'd you get that, eh? By
exploitin' the workers -- by 'angin' on to outdated imperialist dogma
which perpetuates the economic an' social differences in our society!
If there's ever going to be any progress--

Rant!

What exactly is being described as a rant here?

I can understand that some people do not enjoy serious discussions, or perhaps they just don't think it appropriate on a bike forum. They are free to not get involved or not to even read if they wish. That doesn't mean that anything above trivia is necessarily a rant. In fact I don't think there are many rants on here at all.

(is this a rant?)

That in itself is a political post. That is the problem with a ban. It prevents sensible people having reasonable discussions, or even arguments about things that matter to them. Should we be banned from discussing the demise of the UK cycle building industry. Banned from discussing matters of transport policy?

Personally I think the answer lies more in addressing the problem of posters who deliberately derail threads either for mischief or a lack of reasoned opinion of their own.
