Raligh Mirage a museum piece? 207mph pedal bike?

Now the 207mph bike - the record was set in 1995, so it is retro, though not strictly road or mtb as it was done on a rolling road on a carbin fibre bike (road shaped):

Am I to understand the bke was stationary but was able to spin the rollers at the equivalent speed of 207 mph?

Doesn't really count IMO - can't see why it needed to be carbon or aerodynamic. be like saying you climed everest in record time on a step trainer. ~(or whatever those things are called)/.

If the bke was ridden on a track within an enclosed box then that would be more justifiable although there won't be many cars or trackes where that cold be done.

I genuinely don't think I could even get the cranks turning.

I suspect that's the reason for the "tow". Use a motor to spin everything up and then sprint. Without air resistance it's just a matter of strength and gearing. Not really an athletic achievement record in my eyes ;)

Hercules had a professional racing team for a couple of years back in the mid 1950's, racing in both the UK and on the continent.

I think they may have actually been the first British team on the continent.

Nice pics , thanks for up loading.. The mirage..Was it a million raleighs off the line?

I wander if Sir Mr Hoy might be persuaded to attempt somthing once he leaves serious, risk free training behind.

Anyone know the velodrome top speed record?

I had a Purple 90 Mirage as my first MTB. £329.99 from Halfrauds.

Mine was stolen twice! I cried the first time.
