Well after sadly discovering my Sunn Vertik was cracked beyond repair, I’ve sort of found a substitute.
Picked this up today locally. It’s mostly original but needs a heap of tlc. Perfect size for me at 18.5” c/c tho’.
The idea with this will be a strip down and service, paint needs attention and I was thinking rebuild as a single speed? Something I’ve been wanting to try for a while and this bike should be a good candidate as it has horizontal drop outs - so no tensioner needed..
This is probably going to be one I dip in and out of as and when I get time but should be a bit of fun and cheap to do too.

So, after freeing off the stuck seatpost with our pipe freezing machine and fully stripping this down... The paint was definitely too far gone to keep this original.

You can probably see the patches on the seat stays where I had to rub the paint back to bare metal.

I’ve given this a decent coat of satin black and I’m thinking of either multi-colour splatters or trying the marble effect thing with the scrunched up plastic bag - can’t decide which one yet.

Decided to go with white and a touch of red for the splatter finish on this. Thought the white looked good against the black and a touch of red because...

I have these tyres left over from another build and they look pretty cool with the black rims. Should all tie together nicely I reckon.
I gave the wheels a clean up and serviced the hubs while I was at it.
I’m still thinking single speed for this one, just want to try it out, it’ll help keep the weight down too.. 501 is pretty heavy!

Ah thanks, yep me too in truth but the original paint and decals were too far gone. This should be a bit of fun, probably one of those bikes that in many cases would’ve been headed for the tip..
