Raleigh Shopper with handbook, nearly all complete

OK not the usual retro bike, but too good to junk, this is an original Raligh shopper (circa 1976 at a guess - but it is just a guess!)

Comes with original basket in delightfull tarten (the board liner has suffered a bit with age but is not beyond redemption), hub dyno front wheel, lights (wiring will need redoing, not sure if the dyno works or not) Sturmey archer rear hub (not tested, but I can check that).

I know 'how much is it worth' threads are not allowed so I'm going to offer it for £40 for now.

Would prefer collection in person (Live in leamington Spa, work in Coventry) but will consider courier if arranged by the buyer (I'll package it suitably at no extra cost).

Looks like an earlier RSW to me, based on the shape of the lights and the colour. Should be nearer to 1966 than 1976. The rear hub will tell you. Sturmey Archers are marked with a number that corresponds to the date of manufacture. 66 is 1966, 85 is 1985 etc...

OK, thanks I'll check tonight....more importantly anyone want to buy it?

Treading on the edge of the rules is my asking price 'reasonable' optimistic or a give away, frankly I have no idea!

£40 sounds a fair price - ladies shopper bikes are all the rage at the moment.

If you were to put the old girl back together and sell it on Gumtree or your local paper they will be snapping your hand off.

I've looked on ebay, yes they seem to go for about £40 (all be it in slightly better condition).

The old girl needs quite a bit of TLC, but I guess I can do 'just enough' so its rideable and take it from there.

I always found that a good clean and polish really helped to sell them. Pump up the tyres, make sure everything works as it should and hey ho, money in your pocket for a couple of hours work :)

Nick

Pumping up the tyres would be great if one had a tube in it!

Also the mudguard attachment has almost rotted through so it'll never look right, but yes, I'll give it a clean and polish and see what is worth doing!
