just picked one up from freecycle had a quick look on the'bay slightly amazed at what people are wanting for them, question is do i keep it totally original and do a conservation job or do i mod it??

In my opinion, & I appreciate that I am a newbie (to the road section, at any rate) but I say it's your bike, so do as you want!!

However, going back to original spec gets my thumbs up!!

I got a genuine all-original '66 RSW from Freecycle with crusty white tyres, crusty white rubber block pedals and the lot. I was also surprised how much they go for on eBay. I use it at work as a hack.

The thing I regret doing the most is chucking the crusty white tyres, because with some new inner tubes they would probably have been fine. I used Raleigh Chopper fronts, which are black with a red band. They're the right size but they don't look amazing on the bike.

It's a 1966 Raleigh RSW 16, which was Raleigh's answer to the Moulton. It's a bit more basic than the Moulton, no suspension and has fat tyres instead.

Great to see one of these again, ridden a few and always found them comfortable and solid.

I gave it a simple clean and a rub over with polish i'm pleasantly suprised at the overall condition,, found some white wall tyres for it and for now it will have to wait for a full resto. i think it deserves it I'll post some pics soon

It could do with a new front rim any suggestions?

Well it's a 45 year old bike with original parts, looks to be in fairly good condition, it would a shame to hack it up.

For modding, wouldn't be better to use a anonymous non-descript bike.
