Raleigh Riva

Hello Retrobike people

I've joined this forum especially to ask some people who actually know their stuff when it comes to bikes.

I'm trying to put together a basic old style racer bike for my girlfriend who wants to give cycling a go, I've got a Raleigh RIVA frame, just the frame with the pedals and headset and I was wondering what sized wheels this particular model took; is it 700c type? I've looked at a few pictures of this Raleigh model and it also appears to have a rear mech hanger attached directly behind the wheel axle nut, does anyone know what type this would be? Does anyone know what type of wheels would fit this bike, many thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right thread, so apologies if I've entered the wrong one.

The blue and white framed ones seem to be 700c.

You will need a dropout derailleur hanger:

These are available from decent bike shops for a couple of quid.

Be careful about spending too much. The Riva was a bargain basement frame, made of what is jokingly called gas-pipe tubing. It will never be brilliant to ride, especially if it's a ladies' frame, which will be flexible and inefficient. Be warned that it may be one of the frames with special Raleigh-specific threading on forks. Spare parts are non-existent and only available from scrapped bikes.

Thanks for getting back to me, I'll know what to look out for now.

It's only going to be a budget build, luckily she's not bothered about anything too fancy for the time being.

Thanks Hamster
