Raleigh Record Ace 1984 Bottom Bracket Information

Hello. Sorry daft question but I don't have the info to hand and the frame is at home.

I want to buy a new BB and I was hoping someone knows off hand the BB dimensions of the RRA.

Any other advice would be welcomed, like should I replace existing BB with SR original or is there a nice reasonable priced/weighted modern replacement?

Thank you all.

I realise now it's 68mm in diameter.

But how do I figure out the spindle length? I'm waiting for an SR Royal crank set to come through the post at the moment.

As a beginner I do find it a bit confusing...sorry.

No it is not. 68mm is the width of the BB shell (English) as opposed to 70mm (Italian)
The diameter- or at least the thread- you need is 1.37x24- or it should be, assuming Raleigh were through with their proprietary 26tpi BB thread by 1984?

According to Velobase, the SR bottom bracket spindle was 106mm (single chainring) 112mm (double chainring) or 118mm (triple chainring)

Then there's the JIS/ISO taper thing: https://sheldonbrown.com/bbtaper.html
Sheldon says SR are JIS, Velobase says SR are ISO

I have an SR Royal double crankset on a Shimano Dura-Ace 112mm spindle. I've had the cranks for forty years and the spindle for twenty years. I'm still not sure which part might be ISO and which part might be JIS..

SR Royal should be a 119/120mm axle
Thank y
