Picked this up for a tenner... And probably overpaid by about 9.50! Fairly sure its a 1987 due to the U brake. Owner said it has been sat at the back of his garage since the early 90's and looks like it.

Plan is to hose it down and scrub off the mold, take off the mudguards and rack then treat it to a full strip down and clean and see what I'm left with... Could do with new tyres for sure but everything seems to be in a reasonable state under the grime.

Anyone got a spare hazmat suit?

Re:

Soaked it in degreaser and all purpose cleaner, left it to dwell a while and hosed off and it's come out surprisingly well

nice. Had one with canti brakes on the back. That's come up nicely. Tenner well spent

Re:

Very cool and most certainly a bargain there. Certainly a capable enough machine for a tenner.

I remember seeing loads of these at school BITD, along with the darker blue '89 version. They were all in proper 'he'll grow into it' man sizes as well! They looked massive next to the dinky Konas and GT's that the rich kids had.

I like the fact that the Raleigh warning sticker is still there on the back of the stem..remember those well :D

Re:

Six months and a house move later I finally have a shed to work in. First order of business has been a through strip down. Few rusty areas but nothing too bad. Bought new tyres, rebuilt the front hub. Next up will be a few hours polishing the rims to somewhere near shiny.
