Just got a huge 25" raleigh racer,no pics yet, mix. Of 600 and 105,ex age,no model name on it just Raleigh's stickers on nice lug work,

Frame numbers I think are wl400246?

Any help

Cheers

The year of manufcture is either 1974 or 1984........given the kit 1984 :) the number has nothing to do with the model as a rule, pics will help nail it.

Re:

Can bit of a look it looks like a 83,84 road ace, colour is very very pale blue, white, soon as I can get pics up I will

Worksop had closed by then but raleigh nicked the "W" for some of their lightweight frames made in Notingham in 1984.

I remember buying my 531 Raleigh frameset and came from Nottingham but had the W stamped on the underside,
this has always bothered me, so asked why and was told that there was a mass of part built frames at Worksop
which solely had the W stamped on them, then all the old stock was transferred from Worksop to Nottingham and
completed, any truth in that? I have no idea!

As far as I was aware it was the Raleigh bean counters having a hissy fit at having to change the numbering..........so they kept the "W" even though Worksop closed and it allowed them to keep track of production.

That's my take on it, Raleigh kept the "W" long after any old stock would have been sold.

Well that sure is an interesting frame........ over bottom bracket guides but then aero DT levers with the cables going under the BB and the rear mech cable stop under the chainstay.

Looks like a Raleigh / Carlton Pro with extra braze ons.... Is the bottom bracket slotted? Is the frame number correct?

Nice though :)
