Raleigh Dyna-Tech Decade?

Had just finished my fish and chips sat on a Norfolk beach last night, watching the sunset. My other half had gone for a paddle with my eldest so obviously I had a quick look at Retrobike then my favourite eBay searches.

You know how it goes, a quick mental checklist of conditions/rules - something that demands an extra click on a photo, how much is it, how far away is it, is there some mitigation in the value of the parts if the frame is done for? I’m sure you all have your own list. This one was very cheap and 10 minutes from from mums house. I clicked buy it now without looking much more and arranged things with my step dad. For me the race was on to get collected before someone kindly informed the seller what this might be, it’s happened a few times before so not an unfounded fear!

The net result is sat in the shed at my mums now waiting for me to collect.

Only one crappy photo for now until I investigate properly.

So is it what it looks like? I’ve seen @ibbz Decade previously, this one has MT5 on the seat tube as well. The other photos all stack up though paint looks slightly different less metallic could just be the photography. I spotted the lack of seatpost clamp too late but does look like enough seatpost sticking out for it not to be an issue. Even if it turns out to be a repaint/resticker the price was cheap enough not to be that bothered.

now this looks interesting - would be interesting to see better photos and the serial number as well
I’ve never seen one with both MT5 and Decade - though they were the same frame

Curious to know how much ?

There are differences in the decals
The frame details look the same

Is the silver green and black label there by the base of the seat tube ?

I’ll get some photos up once I’ve fetched from my Mum’s later in the week.

How much…about the same as takeaway fish and chips for four at the seaside.

I can’t see enough to see if the serial sticker is still there, to me it looks like it isn’t. There are some RSP stickers on it that look later than your bike to me.

Well done, I saw it about an hour after it had gone. Absolute bargain. I am about 15 mins away from where it was so assume your mum isn't far away. If you want when you pick it up you could pop in to mine and we can put the two side by side.

This is the third Decade I've come across, there is one in Germany. I think that one has MT5 on the frame where as mine doesn't. There shouldn't be a seat clamp, it is a bolt built in to the frame and is in place on yours. It does look to have lost almost all of the original parts but still a bargain.

Drop me a message if you want to pop in and see my Decade.

Thanks for the offer I’d really like to do that - will drop you a PM

Managed to get over to my mums and back sooner than expected to be able to properly inspect this. Stripped and had a wipe down. A couple of “Carbon” stickers hid some minor paint damage.

Colour wise it seems different to the photos of @Raumer bike. Mine is very red, bright red. No Dyna-Tech XMT sticker at the base of the seat tube. There are other decals that differ as well so no Raleigh badge on the head tube but has a Dyna-Tech decal.

Seat stays stick to a magnet, chainstays do not nor do the other tubes. This stacks up.

The seatpost is 26mm and the headtube is for 1 1/8” forks.

Other details like the dropouts are the same as the known Decade bike.

Serial number begins with a C which I think would be correct.

No signs internally of it ever having been a different colour.

Some paint loss on headtube and near seat tube/top tube junction.

Weighs around 1700g

Had some sort of shim on the top headset cup not seen that before.

I wondered that too. Also the MT5 sticker? Gripshift as well though guess that could be an owners addition.

That is quick work. Will get the serial number off of mine later this week, currently away with work. It does look in reasonable condition. Will try and find the photos of the german one to see how that compares to yours. Mine matches the bike in test ride magazine article but don't know if they were all like that.

With the frame design it can only be an MT3, MT4 or MT5 and it makes most sense to be an MT5.

It would be worth putting the photos up on the facebook Dynatech group. One of the active members is Steve Perkins who was in the special products division in a senior capacity at the time these were built. He might be able to help with the details.
