Raleigh Corsa Panasonic

Hi everyone,

I just picked this up today, I've been after one for ages! :D

It is a one owner bike and seems to be totally original apart from the saddle. I'm going to restore it over the next few months and can't wait to get started.

Lee :D

can't beat the Raleigh's of this erea imho and in this colour. Look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Nice :-)

Is it an '85 or 86 model?

(later ones only main tubes 501, the frame number will reveal its age)

I've got a 1986, completely original apart from the bar tape

I'm still reading up on these, but the 501 decal says main tubes, seat stay and forks so presume it must be 85?

'85 it is then :-)

'86 has 501SL Forks and the Shimano '105' Golden Arrow headset, yours will have a Tange Headset

Took a picture of the bottom bracket. Made in Worksop, January, 1985. What is the going rate for a painted frame? I understand that the colours are decals apart from the short section from the head tube.

Production ceased at Worksop in 1981 but Raleigh continued to use the W prefix for bikes built at the Lightweight Unit in Ilkeston

The Lightweight Unit was at Nottingham NOT at Ilkeston; Ilkeston was the home of the SBDU (Special Bicycle Development Unit).

For the record this livery was always referred to as Team, not Panasonic or Raleigh Weinmann (the latter two are the same - livery that is).

Jon.
