I've just spent a few weeks renovating this bike as a project. It's approx 30 years old I believe, and cosmetically has seen better days. There were plenty of scratches on the paintwork, due mainly to careless parking and use of security locks, but I have touched these up to improve the look and, importantly, there are no dents or structural rust. The frame is Reynolds 531.
Mechanically, however, the bike is very good. I have completely stripped, cleaned, greased and adjusted all moving parts inc. hubs, BB and headset and it rides really well. The 700c alloy wheels have little wear and run true.
I have changed the bike from drop bars to riser bars and fitted appropriate Shimano brake levers and gear shifters (if the buyer wants, I will also include the original drop bars, brakes and shifters plus an alloy rear rack in the sale). I also fitted a better Shimano Alivio rear dérailleur and 6-cog freewheel, making the bike a 12 speed. It has all new cables. The front tyre is in good condition. The rear has great tread but there is wear on the side wall from rubbing against the mudguard so I will fit a new cheap rear tyre. Tyres are 700 X 28c.
This bike is large (22.5" seat tube) and would be suitable for someone 5'9'' or taller. It would make a great bike for fast, longish rides or regular commuting.
The bike is £50 collection only, but I will deliver or meet buyer up to 20 miles from Cardiff for the price of fuel (around £6)
