Raleigh chopper mk3

10 speeds were US market only, but some got imported over to the UK. UK has to wait until the MK2 to get a 5 speed version. Lots of variant with Raleigh across different markets.

Indeed, the Grifter and Bombers were tanks. In fact most kids bikes from the 70s were! Somehow we all survived!!! 🤪🤣👌

Thank you for that info. I can't remember who exactly had that US version. I grew up in a mixed bag of people from all over the place. Within the circle of our world there was a rough as guts GLC estate, airline pilot families, military connected families, doctors families, posh kids with piano's, kids with holes in everything, and so on and the class gaps joined by extensive wooded areas that united the kids. It wasn't owned by any of my regular mates so probably someone whos father did some travel, or had something to do with the military.

Yes; we did all survive even with Choppers being what might have been one of the most hair raising bikes to ever exist. My absolute fave was the Grifter though and getting that big gear going downhill off road was such fun.

Loved my Mk2 Grifter, aye they were heavy but indestructible and that saddle was so comfortable...
Shame they are too small now 😂

Lets gloss over the old guy blowing a lung out his back with 3 gears 😂😂

Got to love Raleigh for the vast array of crazy bikes that we all lusted over. I was little (I still am funnily enough!!!) and was too young to fit a Chopper or Grifter so had the mini tank known as the Strika. I reckon if you combined all the kids bikes in our village we pretty much had the full range of Raleigh’s from MK1 & 2 Choppers, Grifters, Tomahawks, Commandos, Budgies, Chippers, Strikas, Vektars and Burners…

One very early memory I have is that I had a 2nd hand ride-on milkfloat that you scooted along with your feet. I later found out it was actually a Raleigh Trundle Milkfloat. Found some literature on it in the 90s, but got lost and can’t seem to find much out them at all…
