Im having trouble fitting the bottom sissy spring cups on my mk 1 raleigh chopper

I cannot get the bottom ones to fit over the frame tube
Were they heated up or something

Were there not torus shaped cups went onto the frame and the springs sat in them, then the upper part of the spring clamped to the rods of the saddle. The rod going through into the frame secured, though i seem to think they were only secured on the top of the spring.
I dont think they ever worked or were suppose to.
Try general google for some real close in shots and see if theres anything missing or if they do indeed fit over the tube.

Thanks for that , looks like there has been more paint used than normally used , the bottom cups have got to be opened out a little
