Raleigh bike model? Year?

Hey! Lay off the old Raleigh's.

When we rode the Verderers Trail in the FOD last year on the Scrapheap Challenge, most of us were on Ralieghs.

Although, I have to admit, they do weigh the same as a double decker bus.

It was solely designed to cash in on a craze. It has bendy brake levers, bendy cable stops, flexible steering, awkward shifting and 'suspension' in a purely cosmetic sense.

It was a nasty bike to ride and nasty to look after. It carries on its shoulders all that is wrong in the business models that some go for in cycling.

You could look at it in two ways, you get given one or buy one, realize that its terrible and upgrade to something better. Smiles all round. But, if you buy one and think that this is the be all and end all of cycling, you're gonna be disappointed. Its just going to sit in the garage with the lasting opinion that 'cycling' is for mad people.

Move on to the present day and its still the same, those new or returning to cycling get sold crap like this and it either reinforces the fact that we are all mad or a new generation end up thinking we are all mad.

I'll give you a tenner for it.

not to be seen as Raleigh slagging (I have an M-Trax Ti1000) my mate had one in the 90's and used to ride with me on my MT4 he used to take a carrier bag with him to collect the bits that would fall off it....and i'm not kidding.

IIRC those forks were called Synchro. Provided you have some spare rigid forks you could remove everything and use it as a ghetto singlespeed pub bike. Then weigh in the scrap parts and enjoy your free pint! But yes, total crap ;)
