Quadra steerers

Hi all,

Just got some NOS quadra 10's, arrived this morning, great!!! However the steerer is mahooosive!!!!
Do I need to remove the elastomer stack, get the long Allen key, remove the bolt and then swap the whole upper leg/crown/steerer arrangement as the steerer seems to be pressed in. Or is there another possibility?

Cheers

Fred

You can cut the steerer down to the correct length with a pipe cutter or a hacksaw if you need to. Easy if it's non threaded, a little more complicated if it is.
Before you go cutting it though, it might be worth posting a message in the "Steerer Tube Swap Shop" thread to see if any body is after a mooooohassiiiive Quadra steerer and they have something to swap with you.
Have a look here for karma's sake...

Is it mahooosive because it's too long (in which case, it can be cut down as drystonepaul says) or is it mahooosive because it's too wide - i.e. 1.25" steerer and you need 1"?

If it's the latter then the whole steerer/crown/stanchions will need swapping.

If it's too long and threaded, then if like the MAG steerers I've had then it will be externally butted and you'll not be able to cut it down.
