Seeking Al, or anyone else for advice.

I am looking at raising up a 94 Golf.

How do I go about it?

Raise it? you would get lynched in the vw "sceen" for asking that question
Which model is it? being a 94 im guessing its a mk3?

I have to confess im a bit of a vw watercool'd geek

I need it up around three inches.

Fnaaar fnaar!!!!

I know it is not the done thing, but my mum ideally needs something higher to get in and out of and loves her Golfs!

Guess I would be looking at a fairly simple job were it just an inch.

Re:

What you need is to convert the suspension to Citroens hydroupneumatic system as fitted to CX etc. Know any plumbers ;-)
Actually that will not work as parked and fully rested they are properly low...oh now, just leave it at high when you park up.
They you go...easy!

air lift helper springs - pump up to get in and out, air down to drive. They're essentially airbags that go inside your springs.

My concern works be with airbags the the springs will become dislocated from their seats. I think longer Springs is probably the viable way to go, but I think it'll munch cv joints and handle like a one legged cat burying a turd on a frozen pond.

How about raising the seat if she's not too tall? Alternatively, the mkIII Golf wasnt an especially pleasant machine, so perhaps you could persuade her into a Tiguan?

hmmmm 3 inches from standard ride height seems a lot - that may well affect handling and possibly invalidate the insurance in the case of an accident.

Agree, 3 inches makes all the difference

It would have a crappy affect on the handling, plus lower arm bushes, ball joints and C.V joints, just the same as lowering does.

May also suffer issues with the shocks topping out on a regular basis, and giver they don't have much in the way of internal top out bushes could cause a stanchion to snap :?

May be time to look at a new car :(

Niall.
