There are plenty of people with money to burn:

SWMBO's lad is 17 on New Years Eve; he left school this year with the worst exam results I have ever seen, especially for someone as bright as he undoubtedly is.

Luckily for him a scheme to help kids who hadn't exactly helped themselves was run in the town (with Roger Daltrey as patron... :shock: ) and as a result he has landed himself a job with a local landscape gardener, earning £175 per week!

They are booked solid through til February, even though this is traditionally the quietest time of year - the point I am getting to is the phenomenal amounts of money people are prepared to pay; 45K for a patio and drive?? :shock:

As for slagging off the previous Government, under which most people did very nicely for themselves, if it weren't for the greed of the American Banks we wouldn't be in a world-wide recession!

Oh yes, my mistake, I was looking at what the POW Reg. were getting for being blown to f*ck in 2009, it's now £1079 take home for getting blown to f*ck before your 19th birthday...

Oh yes, my mistake, I was looking at what the POW Reg. were getting for being blown to f*ck in 2009, it's now £1079 take home for getting blown to f*ck before your 19th birthday...

Though having said that I'm pretty sure I was right the first time;

They pay tax and NI the same as you and I, then they have deductions for food and clothing, plus they have to save a percentage of their wage (can't remember what percentage right now...) - all in all they'd get more stacking shelves at your local Tesco Express!

Well I read this as around £70 odd in extra allowances after basic. As a daily allowance that isn't bad. And I'm not sure if it has changed but active service used to be tax free.

"In addition, when away from your base for longer than 7 days, then you’ll be entitled to a daily allowance of up to £28.24 with a further £18.16 if you have to work in unpleasant conditions. If you are deployed on operations, you'll receive a further daily allowance of £29.02."

Well my dad was a career soldier for 20 years. He served in Malaya, Borneo, Suez, Cyprus and Palestine. All of them when they were in a state of conflict. His view was that people join the forces knowing what it entails. And any ex servicemen I have ever met with a gripe against the services tend to be the ones who are only in for a couple of years.

The british military are excellent at what they do but as is the norm these days the popular press are indulging in shitstirring.

...and I wouldn't mind betting the only time he ever fired a weapon was in training. People used to join up knowing they never would.

Here's a belter... The government pay a private company (Carillion) to build a new wing at QA hospital in Portsmouth. The cost of the development is £256M. The taxpayer is now paying Carillion £43M per year for the next 30 years (into an off-shore account!) for this development. (£1.3 billion, for those lacking a calculator)
Over the past 12 months, 700 jobs and 100 beds have been axed from this 'state of the art' hospital due to lack of funds.
I work in this hospital on a very regular basis, and I personally have benefited hugely as this site has given me 15 years of job security, but FFS!
Who agrees to shit like this? Did nobody do the math, or ask where the money was being paid too? :roll:
