Would love to know what the full name is written on the toptube...I've just done a little bit of idle digging and there is a chap called Ray Chadwick who received a bit of local press by completing a 12000 mile cycle ride back in '91. Could this be one of the bikes used? It certainly looks like the rack mounts have been used a bit

i like this one too, nice brazing. ive not seen one before either though and starting price is a bit steep for an unknown.

It looked good to me but I missed the auction. Then I asked a guy at work if he'd heard of the place and it turns out it's just a stones throw from my work so I rang them up and now I have the frame. It was the frame detail that swung it. Still can't find anything about the Proteus name though. American maybe - found a bike shop with that name.
And so the Pheonix like rebirth / rebuild begins, but first I have to get the BB RH thread to work has a bit of a nick on the first two. Dremmel micro grinding!
