You can get a pack of M10 washers from hardwear stores for about £1. They stack out the double chainring bolts for single use.

What do you mean "pikey looks"? It's not exactly '£69.99 Netto special offer hi-tensile w/ plastic crank' rubbish. A bit bright yeah... if that's what you meant?

well..... I gave it a go this week... I ground down the bolts and bolted on a 32 middle ring, bodged it together on tuesday night

so wednesday morning I got up nice and early and set off to a job where I would meet the bloke who works for me, and ponce his tools for the day....

but after about 1 1/2 miles the front tyre gave up the ghost  so I took the tube out and it was perished and knackered... so I stuffed the tyre full of grass and set of again, and about 1/2 mile later the back went down  ..... so I pushed it the last 5 miles and went to work (luckily because I set off so early, I was only 5 minutes late (if it's possible to be late when you work for yourself))

when I got home I sorted it out and went out for an hour and it was great

so today I tried again.... and actually got to my job, finished there... lobbed it on the roof of Seans van, did another job, then cycled home...

It was great riding to and from work, I really enjoyed not having gears ( :? ) and decided to follow the 6P's in future
(and so far the twins are still intact  .... but I will sort a SS ring very soon)

Loads of rings out there...my favourite has been the Gusset Tribal...its chunky mind...no need for slim-line chainring bolts with this fella.
Couldn't find a 5 bolt in the size I wanted for my next project so I have bought a Blackspire Mono Veloce...I'll be reporting back on this one...hope its good.

Ratio depends on your ride style and where you ride etc etc etc
My main ride is 38/16....loads of road stuff/canal path/easy singletrack etc...plenty of hills too
My next project will be 32/16 as it will be mainly used for beach riding/mucking about in the woods....slow stuff.
Oh...I think Charlie sells slim chainring bolts.
Cheers
Carl
Picture of the Tribal ring....no longer own this bike...mmm..that was a mistake
