Project 2 Fork Weights

Just a quick one, I'm sure there is a thread aready stating this but I cannot find it. What are the differences in weight for Kona P2 forks, Tripple Butted, Double Butted, Plain gauge? Anthony?

Trevor it varies over the years anyway, but as far as I am aware there were only triple-butted and plain-gauge - i.e., whether you call a 1.3-0.8-0.5 tube triple-butted or double-butted is a matter of taste. But anyway, as far as 97 is concerned, a tb P2 weighs c800-850 (depending on length of steerer), a plain-gauge c200 more.

Thanks Anthony, what I suspected, my black T/B one is 800g whereas the 2 gunmetal grey ones I have are 1000g or a kilo in weight! Didn't know there was such a difference.

I have a P2 form '97 Lava Dome and with 160mm steerer (from 14" frame) the weight is exactly 1004g so its a plain gauge P2.

Anthony, could you tell me, from which model was Kona giving triple butted P2's?

I think the Cinder Cone always had tb P2s, the Lava Dome did up to 96 but not 97 unfortunately!

There's more to it than just weight of course, the ride quality is much better with more compliance. But fortunately most people don't go into these details, so the tb P2s don't cost much more on eBay than plain-gauge and are a worthwhile upgrade.

it's worth being aware also that certain years of fire mountain and hahanna had a "project 2 sport" which had a slightly different rake and was plain gauge also
