Proflex 855 Build

Dirt Disciple
OK, I bought an old 855 frame off ebay a few months back, and have just got it back from being sprayed, result is pretty outstanding!

I will be building it over the next few weekends and will post regular pictures on the progress to those that are interested.

Managed to pick up all components from ebay too, including an xtr front and rear mech and some quality rock shox judy's (just picked those up from being sprayed and another quality job)

Here are some photos at the begining of the build,

Does anybody know the best way to get the swing arm looking good, i didn't want that sprayed so it's just been left, polish it maybe?

Appreciate comments,

Thanks

Loads photos onto a host like photobucket then just paste in the link. Simple.

Photos are quite poor quality but does look fresh and red!

Are those the forks? Look like indys to me not judys?

Theres plenty of nice Proflex's on here to keep you interested :D

re

Yes indys, had judy's on the brain as was looking at them,

Picked up the full decal set from Gill too, looking forward to it coming together,

Photos were taken from my phone, which isn't good, I'll use a proper camera on the wekend and load properly

Any idea best way to clean up the swing arm?

I would personally use autosol paste, put it on and use as per the instructions. Its an abrasive polish, and makes alu come up all sparkling. Its a messy job with lots of elbow grease but the results render it all well worthwhile.

Search on here for aluminium polishing or just polishing theres plenty who know more than me who can help.

Have a feeling the swingarm may be lacquered so you may open a can of worms if you start to use abrasive polishes. May be wrong though.

I know to my expense that it is lacquered.....

If it's good quality aluminium (one of the so called aircraft grades) it shouldn't matter that much if it's laquered or not. It should polish up nicely - though will take some effort unless you have a whizzy bench grinder with some polishing wheels. It will need a bit of a polish up every so often afterwards but its worth it for that mirror finish :)

This is how the front triangle of my 656 came up after stripping and polishing with said bench polisher.
