Elastomers that much better?
I have no point of reference, as this is the only Judy I've had experience with, and it came with the springs - One yellow, one red.

Well ...a full steel spring set is never really to be recommended. From a physics standpoint alone.
A steel spring loads energy and releases it almost 1:1. Hence they rightfully earned their reputation to be very "bouncy" and the ride-feel is a little strange. There is no "dampening" factor. A good set of elastomers is much more smooth and feels much nicer.
I highly recommend you buy one of my fresh Rock Shox repro elastomer-kits. Pm me if you like.
