POWER POLISHING !!

SLIM

BoTM Winner
had another brainwave on the weekend , while in work on fri saw we are selling power sanders ( sainsburys )

you know the type with the triangular head

so i thought i wonder if instead of fitting a sanding disc , what about a piece of scotchbrite

its got the velcro pad on ready so ............

i buys and i tries and its brilliant

been polishing the FRS for the last weekend , with so so results

anyway this damn thing has just practically finished the downtube in about 10 mins , and its not exactly a small piece

and with the triangular head , it gets into all the awkward places

and the finish is amazing , uniform scratches all over , like a dull haze , PERFECT

and all for the grand price of £4.99

so if any of you guys are trying to polish something , try it , for a fiver you cant lose

good tip!!

I use a polishing wheel on a drill.
Also tried scotchbrite on a drill, and that wasn't so good. Just flung bits at you and ripped itself apart on the cable guides.

Buy one of thos car polishers for about 15 quid and some metal polish, you get fantastic results :D

Well guys the result of my brainwave , and some seriously tired arms

gave it a good going over with the sander and scotchbrite pad , then a polish with good old autosol using a long rag and the " MILKMAID" technique

and a final buff with some brasso ..... the result =

Nice!!! Good job.
How bad was it before you started? Any pitting or corrosion?

Just a shame it always oxidises so quickly

the frame itself wasn`t too bad but the lacquer was really bad

so had to remove that , going to get it relacquered if i can before it does oxidise again

if you look at the seatube in this pic , it was like that more or less all over
