I'm a bit confused. I had a frame powder coated (£30 by a firm in digbeth birmingham) and I didn't like the finish. The 'paint' seemed to be really think and had a plastic feel to it.

thats because powder coat is plastic and not paint

The powder coat I've had done feels thinner then a wet paint job + doesn't seem plasticie. :? Maybe comes down to the quality of the job?

That sounds like the finish I'm after. Anyone know of a place in the Birmingham area?

BTW, what do bike manufacturers use?

Think Orange powder coat? My 5 looks like it.

got a pic bruv?

BTW: big orange fan here ;-)

I had a clockwork hack but it got nicked (I suddenly found myself demanding sharia law). Now, I'm the proud owner of an Orange X1 (which I think someone on here once owned).

Powder can look very similar to stove enameling :

Thicker than rattle can.

Similar, maybe sligtly thicker (but tougher) than the paint that Marin / spinner used.

Similar, maybe sligtly thinner (but much tougher) than the stove enamel on dads old road mike and mums MTB.

Much thinner than the crap you see on gates / fridge shelves etc

If your interested I could check it with a thickness gauge ?

Hope this helps :D
