Powder Coaters in Cheshire?

Yep will do.

Though it may be a week or so before I get a chance to get over there, need to get the headset out of the frame I'm going to have done first and they're not open on saturdays.

Ok so I've got my frame all stripped down and have managed to get over to JJ Wilkinson's in Shavington (just south of Crewe). Unfortunately they haven't got the RAL colour I was after.....baby pink (Ral 3015), don't take the p**s it's for my girlfriend.

However they did seem to have a good range of colours should you be intrested and I had a quick look in their workshops and the quality of their work does seem spot on and they're very helpful. They can order in your choice of powder but it starts getting expensive as they can't order in small quanities (£100 plus just for the powder), however they suggested that if I can get hold of the powder they'll happily use it on my frame.

Luckily I've found a seller on ebay (composite_suppliesuk) who does small quantities of powder (100g and 500g tins), I was told I'd need at least 1kg so I've ordered 3 500g tins of the stuff....hope that's enough?

Need to pop back now once I've got the powder. I'll let you know how I get on.

Doh.....not sure whether I've ordered the right sort of powder of ebay now!! Maybe this is more complicated than I thought. :(

As a back up plan, I'm considering taking it to Brian Rourkes in Stoke for a Stove Enamel....£95 for single colour plus their website has a whole list of options, ie adding decals etc (another £10 plus). Only problem is the four week turn around time.....

Even if you source the correct type of powder I suspect that by supplying your own, you may just give the coater the perfect excuse / get out clause if it doesnt turn out to be the quality you are expecting ... :(

WD :D

Never thought getting this done would be sooooo complicated....spoke to Withington cycles who do indeed offer a powder coating service, they send them of to some guy in Cambridge, turn around can be anything upto three months (!) but price isn't to bad at £85.

Also been in contact with leominster powdercoat, own website and have an ebay page, waiting to hear back. The quality looks preetty good, they get great reviews on some of the MX forums and the turn around seems pretty sharpish! Promising?

Thought I'd post an update (and completion) to this thread.

After ages of trying to find a powder coater in the cheshire area willing or able to re do my frame in a lovely pink colour I gave up on the basis of just not being able to find anyone with the colour I was after. In the end I took my frame to Brian Rourkes in Stoke for a normal paint respray.... and what a brilliant job they did to.

The finish is truely excellent. They've a masive range of colours and can do fades etc if that's what your after. Mine was a simple single colour affair, application of decals (supplied by me), clear coat and re-fitting of BB and headset all for £100. Which in IMO is a bargain, though I think I was under charged. Turn around was pretty slow though, around five weeks as they seem to be doing quite a few frames. They've a dedicated frame website www.rourke.biz , with prices for work and a huge gallery of stuff they've painted.

Highly recomended and I'll be taking my road bike there when I fancy a respray and rebuild in a few years time.
