Anyone recommend a powder coaters near Oxford or High Wycombe? Preferably who will colour match celeste..

Thanks

there is a RAL number that almost exactly matches Celeste, so any p/coaters should have it, I did a couple of bikes in that colour:

Looking pretty sweet there! Where did you get it coated? Do you happen to know the RAL code and or a decent powder coaters near Oxofrd.

I'm sorry I don't remeber, but my p/coaters (in South Manchester) only had about 20-30 colours and this was one of them

Ah cool. One guy i've found round these ways will do it but he said he doesn't have much of a colour range and it's quite a way for me to go to find out he doesn't have the colour.

I can ring my guys if you like - to find out the RAL code on my order? And if you send me your email I can send you more pics of the colour? This is the other frame, in very bright sunlight:

That would be a great help. Hard to tell from a photo because of monitor differences etc but looks pretty good to me.

I take it you rate powder coating?

yes definitely, not as glossy as spray but much more durable and I think less wasteful of resources as there's practically no wastage. If it's a steel frame blasting it's straight forward in terms of paint removal by media blasting, tho I have know holes be blown in thinner parts (like vintage mudguards) by it. If it's a (softer) alu frame they should maybe strip the paint rather than blast - you could maybe even do this yourself to save cash? Do make sure you/they very carefully mask off threads though (before paint is applied). My current p/coaters (cheaper as not a bike specialist unlike others I've used who cost more) didn't do this first time I used them and it was a nightmare to refit parts! If you get chance to collect from blasters before going to p/coat you have chance to dress the frame with sandpaper / light file to remove any nasties, makes the p/coat go on so much more nicely... you can even remove bosses you don't need etc. However, most decent p/coaters do the blasting / stripping themselves.

Hope this helps,
Al

Yeah thanks, I resprayed my girlfriend bike last year with good results but to be honest I knew it would be and it was a pain. Hand sanded back to metal using different grades of sand paper!

The guy who does the powder coating doesn't sand blast himself he uses a guy over the road as he put it. I am definitely up for doing the masking so will be looking to get the frame blasted before dropping it to the coaters.

Cheers for the advise always good to hear from someone who has gone down said route before.
