No idea what it is - could be good, could be crap. Maybe worth a gamble?

softail

hey....thanks for buying it! :D

i had a thread about a month ago on here,no-one was any the wiser-so as i said in the ebay ad i tried whyte, and also firstflight bikes...with no success

i rode it built up,and loved it-it seems to be a quality frame whatever it is!if you need any more info let me know and ill sort you out

The front triangle/shock/mount are very similar to the KHS Team ST, but the KHS is a true softail (the mystery frame is a Macpherson strut - an aluminum rear triangle softail would self destruct). I'd hazard an educated guess that they were shipped from different doors of the same factory in Taiwan, most likely Giant.

the detailing of the KHS is very different, external machining on the headtube etc. Cable stops are different, I see very little to link the two other than the use of a gusset and the frame being made of an alloy. The KHS Team bikes are actually crazy light weight machines.

Doesn't a Macpherson strut have the pivot on the chainstay before the dropout?

This is really just a swingarm with a similar shock operation to Proflexs, etc

When I first saw the ad I thought it was the one posted on here a while back.

So tempted to click BIN, but I told myself a few weeks ago no more buying......

I'd say that that makes it a Taiwanese frame made for the international market. If it was a Whyte or UK or Euro frame then they would have used a Mac Strut as the specialized patent doesn't cover Euro bikes (that's why Boardman bikes have proper 4 bar suspension. Or at a push it could be a US one, but the rear 'shock' doesn't suggest that.

I'd also say it's likely to have come out of the same/similar factory as the KHS, just because the details are different doesn't mean it's not mass produced in the same place by the same builders/machines. Nice for £25 though although I always thought that the natural properties of the seatstay material acted as damping/rebound in soft-tail design - as this has bushes/pivots etc I would assume that is none of that and the only rebound or damping is coming from the spring - Booooing!

me too

Me three.

I spent a good twenty minutes going back to it last night, cursor hovering over 'Buy it now', thinking "It's only thirty five quid for an interesting frame".

Then my sensible part of the brain would remind me that thirty five quid is just the start....

Yeah. That's what I get for posting before I've finished my 1st coffee.
