Just after some pointers really, quite fancy one and have some money put aside after selling a couple of my bikes this month.
Would you go for an earlier one with the elastomer forks or the later model with air forks?
Anything else to look out for?
Thanks

Mine’s a later one like @yakboy ‘s, although upgraded from the LX kit to XTR. It’s a rider and great fun/very usable.
Also don’t be too scared of the Matt white paint, it’s easier to clean than it looks, just as long as you don’t leave it too long!
Not sure if Spud-U-like has ever ridden his immaculate original older red version?

The early one is essentially the same bike but with Elastomer sprung Voltec forks in my opinion are “more Retro” than the more modern 😂 tat with fancy forks from 1998/99>

The elastomer are still available - Suspension fork parks stock them as do the original manufacturers Steiner Designs who I have all the contact details. They are super helpful and the owner/designer gets a kick out of seeing others appreciate his work even sent me a head tube badge FOC as some twat nicked mine

To be fair I don’t think you can go wrong - however I suspect the later fork works a lot better than mine which having a massive displacement of air makes the most amazing whoof as it composes

Build thread below in signature links shows the forks apart if your interested in seeing the internals which are laughable by modern standards
