Polishing up corroded aluminium parts?

I picked up a 2000 Lava Dome from ebay recently as my wife said she wanted a mountain bike and of course I was happy to oblige! She said she wasn't bothered about make, colour etc but that it "mustn't be scruffy" so I'm going to have to do something about these Avid brake levers!

The aluminium has corroded to the point that it is lumpy under the remaining paintwork. My question is is it possible to strip and polish these to a nice aluminium finish or are they too far gone?

You'll be fine with those.. just sand them down and polish them back up.

Avid levers seem notorious for this. I've lost count of the number of pairs on bikes in this state.

Damn. I have another whole set of quite high end Avid stuff somewhere in my parents' garage and I dread to think what they're like after 10 years. They were really nice when I stored them away.

If they're still ok, stick them in a ziplock bag, spray a load of GT-85 in there and seal them up.. they'll be fine for another 10yrs.
