Polishing metal parts

Hi all

Managed to source a NOS hub for my build.

The item has a few little scuffs and gouges which I want to try and polish out.

Now how could you tell if this is anodised or just polished finish?

Also what would be best to give this a little more sparkle?

Many thanks

I think those Hayes hubs are clear anodized. You can strip with oven cleaner and repolish but that is a lot of work.

Never a bad idea to have a tub of Mothers Mag AL wheel polish around, best stuff for polishing AL. Once you have it, easy enough to confirm, anodized leaves very little oxidization when trying to polish and zero improvement. Regular AL will turn the rag black in a few strokes, and polish to a mirror shine easily.

Many thanks for the help there.

The hub has a few scuffs I’d really like to get rid of and it’s a NOS hub.

Any idea on how to remove nicks from it?

I’ll buy a tub of the AL and give that a go see how shiny it comes up

Thanks again
