Dyna has it right. I know there are good ones around (I know some personally) but you can't take that chance - I also know there are plenty who couldn't care less about right and wrong and will cheat, lie and misreport,misrepresent and twist every word you say so that it means something completely different on their report...

So, much like the public from which they're recruited then.

Kind of. I trust any policeman much less than I do the average man in the street though - once you're part of the force you're no longer an ordinary member of the public and the degree of power and protection that comes from being part of that force is a corrupting influence and routinely misused for various reasons. I've witnessed it myself and I bet any serving officer has seen plenty that's been swept under the carpet.

I don't fancy the job myself one little bit and I'm hardy calling for the abolition of the police force; just saying that they have earned my distrust.

I'm a copper and I've never stolen anything, lied in evidence or done anything remotely dishonest in two and a half decades of service, and I'd quite happily shaft any brother (or sister) officer I came across who I did catch doing one of those things. And i have done.

To judge someone by what they do for a living is utterly ridiculous. I mean, what do you do for a living? 'What benefit does it bring to society? Where's the evidence that no one in your line of work is a chump? Over 40% of the public have a criminal record of some description, so on simple statistics alone there are more convicted criminals in your line of work, whatever your line of work may be, than in mine.

Just face up to it - people are born idiots. They don't suddenly become one because they start a new job. Any arrishole copper you find will have been that way before they joined, and will remain that way after they leave. Just like anyone else.

Re:

should see how brazillian coppers treat their own;
on youtube one copper shoots a robber behind a pickup truck'
and another shoots a bloke highjacking a moterbike :shock:
ours are tame compared to some around the world :wink:
