please help the newbie - question time :)

a set of 100mm travel would sit fine on there , as for the rest of the bike it's just what you want to/can afford to change :D

if it works fine apart from a few things needing changed then just get it up and running , you can change components as you go :D i had a giant boulder that looked just like that and i'm sure it had shimano stx gear through-out with an stx-rc rear mech............

basicly you have a good frame to start a build with so just build it and get out on it

Probably my eyes, but is that a 24" front wheel?

hopefully just your eyes :) both rims have mavic 559x17 on them which from my limited knowledge is a 26" tyre :)

Still reminds me of some gerenric Alu frame like and early 90's British Eagle BOSS sort of thing and I would almost be inclined to say they are the correct forks for it and the original ones.
If they where any longer that bottom bracket is going to get high.

Unless the forks are bent or rusted through they should come out fine.

Personally just get it ridable first, clean and grease it up then ride it. No point in spending the time and cost getting the frame cleaned, prepared, powder coated if it's too small, long, short, horrible to ride....

It's not.

... apart from that used V's and this has a hanger...

... or the fact we seem to be missing a wishbone seatstay somewhere.
