Ok, I have a Hope XC4 on the front of my GT and, once upon a time, it worked ok-ish. Now, years on, it's rubbish. Since i'm planning to use the bike at Mayhem, I thought i'd best have a crack at getting it working a bit.

So, planning to strip it down and give it a rebuild in the next few weeks, and then lob in some new pads. Maybe, even a new hose! The bit i'm pondering is the rotor.

I've got a Bulb on the front with a 5 bolt spider and the original XC4 150mm (I think disc). Since it's the original rotor, it's gotta be a bit worn by now, which won't help. So, here are my questions:

1) Will I get any benefit from chucking on a brand new Hope XC4 rotor of the same size? Never replaced discs on any of my bikes, so no idea if it's worth splashing the cash on a straight replacement.

2) Since 5 bolt rotors are a bit harder to get hold of, can I fit a non-Hope rotor? Maybe something with a sawtooth pattern on it which might improve the cooling and braking performance. If I can, any suggestions about what works?

3) I've had a ponder on trying to fit a larger disc. Anyone done it with an XC4 and if so, what did you fit and did it actually make a big difference? I've read a few comments and people are talking about disc tabs being ripped off and the brake over heating!

Ahh... so many questions

Any advice greatly appreciated!
Cheers
