Plastic Bag Charge

ah i didnt know that about wales
i think they should move to paper an cardboard

an there should be no charge, its all about the dosh.
if they cared about the planet, there would not be
barrels of nuclear waste floating up on beaches.

an everybody would have cars run on vinegar like prince charles.

its just another tax on poor people

the money bags will all take there own bags along,
an poor people who minds are busy thinking about getting home to watch the soaps an xfagtor wont

Re:

Never bothered me, we hardly use shops plastic bags. Always have something to place items in the car (old bags, jute bags, boxes etc). To store the shopping in to make it easier to take out the car for supermarket style shopping.
We reuse them all the time till they are dead or lost.

If out shopping, 5p for one bag with a shops adverts on will do, then stuff everything else in there. Not exactly expensive but is there to cause you to not just grab some more pointless bags.

Internet brings the rest of it in oversized boxes ;-)

I doubt you'll see the council tax dropping, given the expense of clearing them up and tidying the streets from them is probably the real motivation ;-)

a lot of people dont buy bin bags any more
they just use a smaller bin with a carrier bag in it

the supermarket choose to make there bags from a type of plastic
that cannot be recycled, so they end up in landfill

how about giving the supermarkets a tax deduction for
using bags that can be recycled?

I thought buggerlugs got around by spinning his head around and around 'til it got enough tension that he could use his head as a propeller!

I don't see the problem with this at all.
I buy the better quality supermarket ones that are meant to be re-useable, keep them in the car,and use them 'til they're too knackered to. The supermarket in question, Asda, replaces the knackered ones for new ones free. They then re-cycle the old ones. I hope.

Single use bags as they are called just go in our recycle bins here.
But that costs more money to then lug around and recycle. The whole point is to save money by councils tidying up (or not tidy up) with the side effect of reduced environmental stuff.

How else are they to afford their payrises and only shut down a few public services without increasing our council taxes even more.

The reason carrier bags end up in landfill is because the council dumps them there

Does it cover use as kites?

What you do with it once its yours is entirely at your discretion,

Even the thinnest from the carrier bag range doubles as a very effective rain hat 8)

My local Co-op gives out free bags with your shopping at the till but doesn't have any you can take for yourself. Have I mentioned their special offers at present?

Re:

I have carrier bags in the boot(got them years ago) and havent even thought about plastic bags since they were levyed here 12 years ago.Needless to say I havent seen discarded plastic bags line the hedgerows or litter the streets in 12 years.Carrier bags last for years(mine are 8 years and going strong)plastic bags last for a day or so until they split and then left to fester for a few thousand years or so in landfill.Completely painless transition and is a no brainer.Bring on the charge.

I have plastic sheeting, duct tape, and a sharp knife in the boot of mine. I agree, the plastic bags tear far too easily and allow the carpets to get stained.

to be fair ive just been looking at some new bags an they do say recycle on them so maybe they all are now
an i should think so :)

prince ears motor runs on off wine http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europ ... oyal.wine/ probably all the dregs from the royal parties we pay for :o
