Plastic Bag Charge

So i guess cheap polyester fleece's are going to be with us for a very long time :?

PET can be recycled, they've been making fleece jackeys out of recycled PET bottles since at a least the Retrobike days (I had a nice windstopper one).

Quite ironic as everything on the supermarket shelf is over-packaged so depriving customers of a few plastic bags will make very little difference.

Meanwhile, the likes of China and India carry on polluting the planet with impunity.

Now where's the nearest tree? I feel like a nice hug.

This. But it means for five minutes a few hand wringers get to feel all warm inside. Less landfill and a new tax into the bargain, woo.

As you point out in the grand scheme it's an utterly futile gesture.

This is pissing me off now... I have some fancy 10p carrier bags but always seem to forget them/leave them in the car/at home/on the dogs head etc so end up at the checkout in Tesco with a load of shopping and nowhere to put it, if I use the self-checkout things I have to find a member of staff and ask for a carrier bag as they're kept under lock and key (something like that) and then feel like a right numpty because I asked for one bag but there's no way on earth all my shopping is going to fit in just one bag....

I used to use the carrier bags as bin bags at home, recycling,no?? now I guess I'll have to buy more plastic bags to use as bin bags.... so the net result is that this ban costs me money, makes someone else money, a few people feel good about themsleves, and the same amount of plastic bags still get used regardless of what purpose they are bought for.

Exactly, pretty much anywhere outside of Western Europe don't bother with recycling or the "environment". landfill and burning of rubbish are the cheapest and simplest options.

Time to stock up then. Leave a few scattered about in trees and hedgerows for the less wealthy.
