Plastic Bag Charge

Utterly pointless waste of time. Customers don't want it, businesses don't want it. But we've got it because a the Scottish parliament doesn't have the teeth to do anything worthwhile so resorts to interfering token gestures like this to justify their miserable existence.

I'll suppose I'll just 'steal' bags at self service checkouts. I couldn't be less interested in recycling if I tried.

ive got lots of them in the cuboards because i double bag stuff when i buy glass jars etc, they cant stop you taking your own bags

but the main p-take with this is its not just plastic bags
like they made out was the reason

they even put the 5p charge on eco bags made of paper an cardboard

marks an sparks an aldi have been charging for bags for ages
an as a result most folk take there old bags rather than pay 5p

if you do a big shop with heavy items you need a lot of bags

i just take my massive gym bag instead
its rare i need more than can fit in that

an if so i just grab some empty boxes from the shelf stackers :)

i knew this was coming an im a not a fan of paying out for stuff
that used to be free so im not

funny how they test stuff out in scotland 1st why not wales?
this new tax is uk wide from 2015 so enjoy your free ones now
before you have to pay to rustle your bags

ah edit just read that it might only be for large stores an not corner shops

Aldi and Lidl always have empty fruit and veg boxes around so I just take them . Also my family gives me loads of plastic bags as they know I use them for a bin, which means I don't need to buy them unlike before just to chuck rubbish in .
If im at a Asda or WH Smiths I grab a handful of bags and shove them in with my shopping sometimes.

Couldn't agree more!

My blue wheelie bin made a very handy watertight store for some bike parts until recently.

Oooh, how wickedly controversial you are...
There's nothing controversial about it, the vast majority of the planet agree with me- the fact this board has more than it's fair share of tree huggers doesn't change that.

The good news is plenty of places clearly aren't too keen on taxing their customers unnecessarily. I've been given three bags since yesterday and I haven't paid for any of them. One was a high street name, the other two were local shops with signs up for the benefit of any undercover test shoppers but who happily passed out free bags, with a passing comment for the absurdity of the idea.

Like fags, booze, petrol and anything else they supposedly don't want us doing it's the thin end of the wedge. The 5p will increase whenever we're judged to still be using too many bags. And again. And again.

Re:

First hand experience of this as both a shopper and retailer, as Wales introduced this ages ago.

About time England introduced this
